French leftwinger Benoit Hamon

French leftwinger Benoit Hamon has won the Socialist nomination for president in this year's election, easily defeating centrist ex-premier Manuel Valls in a runoff, party sources told AFP on Sunday.

Partial results showed Hamon winning 58 percent to Valls' 42 percent, the sources said, asking not to be named because they were sharing information that was not publicly available.
