Venezuela's embattled President Nicolas Maduro met Monday with top US diplomat John Kerry after the Colombian government and FARC rebels signed a landmark peace deal.

"Pdte @NicolasMaduro held respectful, top level meeting with @JohnKerry. We confirmed our bilateral dialogue with Tom Shannon," Venezuela's foreign minister tweeted.

The two countries have had tense bilateral ties for years.
