The death toll from huge forest fires raging through central Portugal has risen to at least 62, according to new figures issued Sunday by Secretary of State for the Interior Jorge Gomes.

The blaze, which broke out on Saturday in the Pedrogao Grande district, also left more than 50 people injured, including eight firefighters.
