Spanish prosecutors on Monday asked a Madrid court to remand in custody the head of Catalonia's regional police force, Josep Lluis Trapero, who is accused of sedition, a judicial source said.

Trapero was being questioned in court on accusations of sedition for his handling of pro-independence protests last month in Catalonia and for allegedly failing to stop an independence referendum in the region deemed unconstitutional.
