Labour Party leadership candidate Jeremy Corbyn

Radical anti-austerity candidate Jeremy Corbyn has been elected the new head of Britain's main opposition Labour Party with 59.5 percent of the vote, the party announced at a special conference on Saturday.

Corbyn, whose campaign has been likened to Greece's Syriza and Spain's Podemos, won against more centrist candidates Andy Burnham, Yvette Cooper and Liz Kendall.
