Air strikes near two schools in Idlib province in northwestern Syria killed 16 civilians, six of them students, on Wednesday, a monitoring group said. 

"Warplanes -- either Russian or Syrian -- carried out six strikes, including near two schools, in the village of Hass," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

It said both schools were damaged.
