Nigeria petrol tanker crash

The death toll from a raging fire that broke out after a Nigerian petrol

tanker lost control and crashed into a packed bus station has risen to 69, the Red Cross

told AFP Monday.

An official with the agency in the capital Abuja said staff on the ground in the

southeastern city of Onitsha confirmed 69 dead but said several others were being

treated with severe burn wounds and the toll may rise.

The police had given an initial toll of 37 killed for the accident, which happened on

Sunday.
