Russia urged North Korea on Thursday to avoid escalating tensions with an announced rocket launch, expressing "grave concern" over the plan.

"The Korean side has been insistently urged to refrain from actions that can further escalate tensions in the region," the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement, after summoning the North Korean ambassador.
