British police have arrested the head of Rwanda's intelligence service on a European arrest warrant issued by Spain where he is suspected of involvement in genocide, officials said on Tuesday.

"We were informed by the Met Police on 20th of June that they had arrested general Emmanuel Karenzi Karake," a Foreign Office spokesman said.
