The brother-in-law of Spain's king

The brother-in-law of Spain's king, who was handed six years and three months jail for syphoning off millions, will remain free as he prepares to appeal the sentence if he posts bail, prosecutors said Thursday.

At a court in Palma de Majorca in the Balearic Islands, prosecutors asked that Inaki Urdangarin be allowed to remain temporarily free if he pays bail of 200,000 euros until all possible appeals are exhausted, rather than go to prison straight away.

Under Spanish law, judges cannot deny such a request.
