The senior UN official in charge of bringing together the different parties in the Syria conflict said Thursday there was little prospect of an imminent restart of negotiations.

"At the moment, when bombs are falling all over, it is very difficult to justify resuming talks," the envoy, Staffan de Mistura, told AFP after he met Pope Francis at the Vatican.
