US central bankers say they may need to raise interest rates faster than planned, noting "considerable uncertainty" about the expected fiscal stimulus policy of Donald Trump, according to the minutes of the Fed's final 2016 policy meeting released Wednesday.
A Trump stimulus package could boost demand above sustainable levels, "potentially necessitating somewhat tighter monetary policy than currently anticipated," many participants in the December 13-14 meeting said.
But they "agreed that it was too early to know what changes in these policies would be implemented and how such changes might alter the economic outlook," according to the minutes.
