China imports surged 38.1 percent year-on-year in February, official figures showed Wednesday, beating expectations on higher commodity prices and stronger domestic demand.

Exports came in below expectations, dropping 1.3 percent year-on-year, causing a surprise trade deficit of $9.15 billion, Customs said.
