Wall Street stocks surged to fresh records at the close Wednesday in anticipation the European Central Bank will extend its stimulus, and amid optimism about the US after the presidential election.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 1.5 percent to  19,540.68, its third straight record close. 

The S&P 500 also notched a fresh record, rising 1.3 percent to 2,240.87, while the Nasdaq Composite Index gained 1.1 percent to 5,392.48, about six points shy of a record of its own.
