At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average stood at 18,636,05, up 0.3 percent. The broad-based S&P 500 gained 0.3 percent to 2,190.14, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.6 percent to 5,262.02.
