Japan's gross domestic product expanded 0.5 percent in the first quarter of 2016, revised official data showed Wednesday, up from the previous reading of 0.4 percent. 

The new reading, which comes after a contraction in the last three months of 2015, gave an annualised rate of 1.9 percent, according to figures released by the Cabinet Office. An initial reading last month gave a yearly rate of 1.7 percent.
