Britain's UK Independence Party named former history lecturer Paul Nuttall on Monday as its new leader to replace Brexit firebrand Nigel Farage, a political ally of US President-elect Donald Trump.

Nuttall, 39, promised to unite the party following months of bitter infighting following Farage's announced departure in the wake of Britain's June referendum to leave the European Union.
