 Wall Street stocks surged to fresh records Friday after data showed the US economy added a much stronger-than-expected 255,000 jobs in July.

At the closing bell, the broad-based S&P 500 stood at 2,182.50, up 0.8 percent and about three points above the prior all-time high set last month. 

The tech-rich Nasdaq Composite also set a record, up 0.8 percent at 5,221.12, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.0 percent to 18,539.46, less than 20 points from its record.
