Volkswagen's new chief Matthias Mueller

Volkswagen's new chief said Tuesday the German auto giant will reconsider all planned investments after its emissions cheating scandal, which threatens to cost the company billions in penalties and damages.

"We are are reviewing all planned investments once again. What is not absolutely necessary right now will be scrapped or postponed," Matthias Mueller told staff in a speech, adding that "every euro that stays in the company helps us".
