His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council of Youth and Sports and Honorary President of Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Federation (BMMAF) has expressed his pride in the national team's latest achievements in the 1st edition of Africa Open MMA Championship for Amateurs, held in Johannesburg, South Africa on September 1-2.
HH Shaikh Khalid’s remarks came as he received at the KHK MMA Organisation's Gym Hall, members of the national MMA team for amateurs, in the presence of Col. Khalid Abdulaziz Al Khayyat member of the Bahrain Olympic Committee and Chairman of Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Federation as well as members of KHK MMA team, and Mohamed Shahid the CEO of KHK MMA Organisation along with BMMAF board of directors.
HH Shaikh Khalid congratulated the team members on such honorable results lauding their unprecedented performance abroad especially at the level of the International Martial Arts Federation (IMAF) championships.
HH Shaikh Khalid conveyed to them the greetings of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa the representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee.
HH Shaikh Khalid said the team was able to prove their capability and bagged two gold medals as well as four silver medals in various weights. This number of medals won was the highest over more than two and a half years. HH Shaikh Khalid added that this reflects to a large extent the remarkable development in the overall standard of the team that reflects the outstanding level of fighters’ performance during this international sports convergence which led to boosting the shares of Bahraini mixed martial arts and boosted its international prestige.
HH Shaikh Khalid said: "This accomplishment comes to complete Bahrain’s successful MMA march begun in 2015, which witnessed the achievement of numerous honorable results that culminated in boosting its international place thanks to the support of the wise leadership and His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, which has been translated and implemented on the roadmap we charted and defined its goals aimed to make the Kingdom of Bahrain the key hub of global mixed martial arts."
HH Shaikh Khalid pointed out that the efforts will continue to achieve that goal which positions Bahrain among the ranks of advanced nations in this sport.
