With the line-ups for all nine races for this year’s US$30 million (Dh110.2m) Dubai World Cup at Meydan Racecourse on March 25 announced The National will bring you the best coverage as we build up to the richest night in horse racing.
It is the conclusion of the UAE racing season, featuring nine high-class races including six Group 1 and three Group 2 contests. Racing is brought to a close by the US$10m Dubai World Cup, won in 2016 by California Chrome.
Australian pop star Sia, whose hits include Cheap Thrills and Chandelier, will bring down the curtain on the 22nd running of the Dubai World Cup with a 70-minute concert featuring her biggest hits.
Arrogate, the world’s top-rated horse, leads a 14-strong American challenge across the nine races and Bob Baffert’s Pegasus World Cup winner will be the one they need to beat in the Dubai World Cup feature race.
Arrogate leads a team of five from America in the World Cup itself, with Hoppertunity, who was third last season, set to enter the gates alongside Gun Runner, Keen Ice and Neolithic.
Erwan Charpy and Maria Ritchie will have their first World Cup runners after both Furia Cruzada and Special Fighter made the cut to face Arrogate. Furia Cruzada will be the only mare in the line-up, and is the lowest-rated runner on 108. As a contrast, Arrogate is rated the world’s best horse on 134. Special Fighter, who was fourth 12 months ago, is rated 115 and will give the new Oasis Stables trainer the biggest night of her fledgling career.
