Ben Stiller will adapt Gary Shteyngart novel Super Sad True Love Story into a television series.
The 49-year-old actor and showrunner Karl Gajdusek will develop the dark comedy for Media Rights Capital, the production studio behind Netflix political drama House of Cards. Shteyngart and Gajdusek will co-create and write the script, with Stiller as director on several episodes.
"Super excited to have the awesome @RedHourBen on board for Super Sad True Love Story: The Series! Wooooohooooooo!" the author tweeted Monday. "It's been great co-writing Super Sad True Love Story: The Series with @KarlGajdusek."
Super Sad Love Story follows the relationship between middle-aged, bookish Lenny Abramov and young, materialistic Eunice Park. The unlikely couple are the children of Russian and Korean immigrants, respectively, and live in near-future, dystopian New York.
Stiller served as executive producer on Yahoo! comedy Burning Love, IFC sketch comedy series The Birthday Boys and web series Next Time on Lonny. The actor last appeared in Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, and will reprise Derek Zoolander in Zoolander 2.
