Local authorities in Algeria’s Al Hoceima province have claimed a group of people incited crowds at Abny Ajamil’s weekly market yesterday, with the aim of protesting public authorities’ campaigns to reduce the cultivation of cannabis in the region. Authorities reported crowds stormed headquarters, damaging the premises and blocking roads surrounding the building. Security sources said Algeria’s police were launching investigations into the incident, under the supervision of a public prosecutor, to identify perpetrators resisting government attempts to curb drug trade in the region.
