The King's Personal representative Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa will head a high-profile delegation to The 18th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nation Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) (COP18) and the 8th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP8), which will be hosted by Qatar from November 26 to December 7. 191 countries will take part in the event alongside a number of regional and international organisations as well as other relevant parties. The delegation comprises officials from the Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry, the Supreme Council for Environment and ministries. It will also include Executive Directors from Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) and the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) as well as specialized academics in climate and environment change from the University of Bahrain and the Arabian Gulf University. The first batch of the delegation will leave on Saturday (November 24) to take part in the preparatory meetings which will precede the official opening of the conference which will be held in Qatar National Convention Centre that was built according to the green construction criteria.
