Houbara Conservation project

The Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) has extended sincere thanks and gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa following his praise of the efforts of the SCE, under the leadership of HM the King's Personal Representative and the SCE President Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
HM King Hamad patronised recently the launch of the Houbara Conservation Project, supported by the SCE President in line with the Royal directives to conserve this species of birds, provide them with breeding habitat in the Southern Governorate and protect them from overhunting and poaching.
The CEO of the Supreme Council for Environment Dr. Mohammed Mubarak bin Daina commended the efforts of Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad to protect rare species, particularly the houbara ones.
He also valued highly the achievements of the UAE-based International Fund for Houbara Conservation, which offered Bahrain a number of Asian Houbara (Chlamydotis undulata) birds, also known as MacQueen's Houbara, in a bid to provide them with sustainable breeding space.
He highlighted the SCE's constant interest in bio-diversity, and commissioned a specialised team to supervise the houbara conservation project.
