Hani Mahmoud Hamdi, chairman of Qena's sanitation and drinking water company, said that diesel fuel leaked into the River Nile leading to water cut in the city Thursday.

All water plants were closed as a precautionary measure, Hamdi said.

Emergency teams rushed to the scene to control the leak, he added.

No further details were yet available regarding the source of leakage.
