Dubai Municipality has said that over 6.19 million tonnes of foodstuff were imported in the emirate in 2017.

According to Iman Ali Al Bastaki, Director of the Food Safety Department at the municipality, a total of 6,191,135 tonnes of food were imported to Dubai this year via 289,347 shipments. The municipality's electronic control system registered over 600,000 different varieties, she added.

As part of its annual plan to develop trade movement and stimulate food import and export operations in Dubai, the department recently organised a customers' meet with food traders in the emirate.
