River Nile

Egypt had offered grants for development projects at Nile basin countries over the past two decades at a total value of EGP 500 million or $66 million, Water Resources Minister Hossam Moghazi said.
The Egyptian assistance contributed to the establishment of rainwater harvesting dams and reservoirs in those countries, he said.
Currently five rainwater harvesting dams are being built in Uganda and five dams in South Sudan, he said.
The ministry also dug 180 water wells in arid areas in Kenya under a $6 million grant and 10 wells in Sudan ($1 million).
At present, 50 wells are being dug at Darfur over a five-year period at a cost of $7 million, the minister said.
