 A high-level delegation of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) under Deputy Regional Director and Water Expert Pasquale Steduto on Monday started on a week-long visit to Egypt for talks on joint cooperation in various fields.

FAO regional office in Cairo said in a statement that the delegation will meet with a number of officials and ministers concerned with the project of cultivating 1.5 million feddans and will be briefed on the proposed map for the project to determine spheres of possible cooperation.

The delegation comprises experts in the fisheries, management of underground water, irrigation, water farms management as well as renewable energy.

In statements on Monday, FAO Assistant Director General and Regional Director for Near East and North Africa Abdel Sallam Ould Ahmed said the FAO mission aims at affirming the organization's commitment towards Egypt's agricultural projects.

He said FAO is looking forward to bolstering historic cooperation with Egypt in all domains including sustainable management for water resources, renewable energy, green agricultural technology and fisheries.

FAO's current projects in Egypt covered assistance in combating bird flu virus, use of solar energy in irrigation, improving food safety conditions in the most poor communities, enhancing the systems of agricultural cooperatives and remote sensing.
