Istanbul – KUNA
Director General of the Kuwait Environment Public Authority (EPA) Salah Al-Mudhi said here on Monday the joint meeting of senior GCC and Turkish environment officials was held at the right time and came after His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's visit to Turkey late February. Speaking to KUNA by phone from Ankara, Al-Mudhi said the gathering had given Kuwait the opportunity to present its environmental priorities, noting that Kuwait had submitted a working paper to the meeting on its visions for GCC-Turkish environment cooperation. He added that they had taken note of Turkey's successful experiment in the field of response to and prevention of pollution caused by ships, sustainable management of the Gulf, coasts and coastal areas, wastewater treatment technology and climate changes. He said they had stressed the significance of spurring cooperation and exchanging experts between the GCC members and Turkey, especially as the EPA had presented an executive program between Kuwait and Turkey in the environmental field. They were also apprised of the Turkish experiment in the mechanisms of financing with international environmental financing organizations and funds as GCC environment undersecretaries stood prepared to attend a UN workshop in Bahrain on June 4-5, the Kuwaiti environmental official remarked. The GCC-Turkish environmental meeting was preceded by a coordinative GCC meeting on a single vision for cooperation with the Turkish side in the environmental domain.
