Gulf of Mexico oil spill

The National Assembly approved on Wednesday amendments to the 1964 law regarding the prevention of marine pollution caused mainly by oil slicks and spills.
Praising the lawmakers' passing of the amendments, Minister of Oil Dr. Ali Al-Omair, who was present at the lawmakers' vote on the amendments, said the law in its new guise will be effective to a great measure in safeguarding the nation's waterways from the onset of any pollution, stressing his ministry's keenness on keeping the environment, marine or land, free from dangerous pollutions.
On the other hand, the National Assembly postponed voting on a draft law calling for a unified GCC approach to fighting the practice of dumping products in the region.
It also postponed voting on the GCC security agreement, but endorsed the draft laws for the final accounts of the government's ministries and agencies.
Today's parliamentary session ended on the promise to reconvene next Monday
