A presidential media report said that electricity capacity witnessed a 25-percent increase in 2015 and that 3,852 MWs more would be added to Egypt's power grid in 2016.

The national electricity project will cost the state EGP450-500 billion, including an urgent plan to add 2,600 MWs at a cost of EGP 26bn, the giant Siemens power plan at EGP 80bn, in addition to EGP 250bn for the establishment of the Dabaa nuclear plant, the Media Office of the Egyptian Presidency said.

The national grid's production has witnessed a surplus of 300 MWs, the report said, noting that the state's strategy on electricity expects an average annual increase in excessive load by 8.7 percent, the report said.

Over the past two years, several power stations across the country were established and many of the existing ones rehabilitated in order to overcome the energy problem, it added.
