Algiers - KUNA
Algeria and Russia signed here on Wednesday an agreement on cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The deal was inked by Algerian Minister of Energy Youcef Yousfi and the CEO of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (ROSATOM) Serguei Kirienko, according to a statement by the Ministry of Energy.
It aims to build the capacity of Algeria in the peaceful applications of the nuclear energy in such areas as power generating, nuclear medicine, farming and aquatic resources.
Yousfi has recently told the state TV station that his country plans to build the first nuclear power station in 2025 to meet its rising needs of electricity and diversify the sources of energy.
