Meeting the citizens’ demand for water during Ramadan and the summer season required the achievement of 411 projects, a hundred of them were intended for drinking water supply, Water Resources Minister Hocine Necib told a press conference in Algiers on the situation of public water services and sanitation during the 2014 summer season.
These projects are the water transfer system from Koudiet Acerdoun (Bouira) to Médéa and M’sila as well as the water transfer system from Aïn Kercha (Oum Bouaghi) to Koudiat Mdaouer (Batna), in addition to the two new drilling in Boussâada and the linkage of Tebessa or the connection between Guemas reservoir and Amir Abdelkader complex (Constantine).
Thanks to these projects, "the overall level of water reserves is significant," the minister said, announcing that the two big dams will be delivered, including that of Tipaza in 2014 and eight others in 2015.
In June and July, the average water production was 9.5 million cubic meters per day against 8.5 million in the same period of 2013, said Necib, adding that the summer season arrangements also consist in strengthening l’Algérienne des eaux (ADE) response capacities, which received equipment worth 650 billion centimes.
