Arab League Secretary General Nabil el Araby underlined the importance of depending on renewable energy as one of the solutions to secure energy resources and make use of them in the sustainable development in the Arab region.
Speaking at the opening of the third Arab Forum for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Araby said that the Arab countries are witnessing unprecedented approach toward establishing electricity stations which depend on solar energy or wind energy.
He also pointed out to the approach adopted by Egypt, Jordan and the UAE to benefit from the solar energy projects.
He further said that a number of countries adopted policies to develop the renewable energy markets, including Palestine, Jordan, Syria, Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria.
Araby, meanwhile, said that the number of implemented projects in the energy sphere reached to about 112 projects.
The third Arab Forum for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency is a high-level ministerial international/political/technical forum held every two years under the patronage of Secretary-General of the League of Arab States.
The Forum addresses challenges towards realizing future energy market transformation and transition in the Arab region, through discussions on the future role and impact of renewable energy and energy efficiency development at the economic, environmental and social levels.
