China's national political advisors on Thursday called for steadily promoting the development of nuclear electric power and clean energies while ensuring security. Developing nuclear power and clean energies and restructuring energy use are big issues for China's sustainable economic development and environment protection, advisors said at a biweekly symposium of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the symposium and exchanged ideas with the advisors. Advisors said that China should optimize the overall layout of nuclear power projects as well as develop hydropower, wind power and photovoltaic power. Authorities should reinforce nuclear security monitoring and never allow the occurrence of nuclear leaks, the advisors said.
