The Jordan District Energy Company has signed an agreement with the US Arens Electric Company to design, manufacture, build and operate the central station for heating and cooling for the Al-Abdali project in partnership with Arab Towers Contracting Company (ATCCO).
On behalf of the Jordanian energy company, Acting Director-General George Omira signed the agreement with Arens Electric General Manager, Carlos de Ceballos.
The agreement gave the right to Arens and ATCCO to design, manufacture, build and operate the station, the first of its kind in the region as per the highest global standards within 16 months, with a view to save energy and preserve the environment and water resources in the Kingdom.
Omira explained that "the Jordanian District Energy Company has constructed the infrastructure for the station in the first working phase, where lines of heating and cooling were extended along five kilometers to deliver the generated energy from the station to the first phase of Al-Abdali project at a cost of JD15 million.
The Jordan District Energy Company worked in cooperation with many local and international agencies to carry out scientific studies to determine the benefits that the station would result in, showing that the use of this system will help slash the energy bill by up to 40 percent and water consumption by more than 95 percent.
The studies covered the impact of the station on environment and revealed that it will significantly reduce the negative environmental affects resulting from the use of individual energy systems.
