The State of Kuwait praised continuous efforts made by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), namely its Director General Yukiya Amano, for clearing the Middle East of weapons of mass destruction.
The official Kuwaiti stance was demonstrated by Lujain Bou-Allayan, the diplomatic attache at the Kuwaiti Embassy in Austria, addressing the IAE Board of Governors, while discussing a report on "the nuclear safeguards" in the Middle East.
On basis of the State of Kuwait's strong belief in the Middle East peace, it has devoted special attention to such meetings, in preparation for the previously-delayed Helsinki conference, designed to make the Middle East free of nuclear arms, the Kuwaiti diplomat stated at the international meeting.
Israel's continuous breaches of relevant international accords constitute a stumbling bloc in face of efforts to realize such a purpose, particularly in shadow of international abstention from exerting pressure on Tel Aviv, she said, noting the fourth term of the report, asserting that Israel is the sole country in the Middle East that has refrained from signing the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Such an attitude affirms Israel's intransigence and abstention from steps that must be taken to clear the Middle East of WMDs including the nuclear arms, she added.
