Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza took part in a panel discussion for senior officials and decision makers in the energy sector, on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2018.
The discussion, on the topic, "Towards a Global Energy Transformation", was attended by ministers of energy, environment and climate change from several countries. Discussions included challenges faced by the energy sector in the transition to clean energy sources, limited natural resources and technological development, in addition to the rapid population growth.
The minister outlined Bahrain’s plans in the field of sustainable energy and its national goals. He also spoke about the recent steps taken by the Council of Ministers to build a 100-megawatt solar power plant in Bahrain, allow solar systems on rooftops and create facilities for their safe connection to the government’s electricity grid.
Discussions also included the Net Metering system and how it would benefit the Gulf electricity grid.
The meeting was attended by the UAE Minister of Energy, the British Energy Minister, the French Minister, the Chairman of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and the Secretary General of the International Renewable Energy Agency.
