Morocco\'s primary energy demand will triplicate and electricity demand will quadruple by 2030, Morocco\'s Society for Energy Investments (SIE) Director Ahmed Baroudi said at the ENPI conference on renewable energy on Wednesday. \"The courageous choice of betting on renewable energy could become an opportunity for development, because it will allow for containing the increase in demand while guaranteeing the safety of supplies and of available energy, therefore general access at reasonable prices\", Baroudi said. Morocco, whose abundant natural resources include 3,000 sun hours a year, aims to \"generate 42% of its power from renewable sources by 2020. Existing laws and regulations are clear and innovative. They respond to this objective, and we are working with the relevant ministers to improve them further\", Baroudi said. \"Working on energy efficiency is a priority in order to make the 2020 objective. An example is the collaboration between SIE and the city of Salè to design a LED public lighting system, which will reduce energy consumption by 80%. Also, the level of lighting in any given point of the city can be easily managed\", Baroudi explained.
