The BASIC countries denied during their meeting here on Tuesday any plan to change their position on the Paris climate change agreement, Egyptian Environment Minister Khaled Fahmy said.
Speaking to MENA correspondent here before returning home on Wednesday, Fahmy said he was invited for the BASIC meeting as a representative of Egypt, the current head of the African Ministers Conference on the Environment, to prepare for the coming international conference on climate change, which will be held in the German city of Bonn in November.
The participants in the meeting stressed the need for providing financial aid to help poor and developing countries fight against global climate change, the minister pointed out.
The BASIC countries are a bloc of four large newly industrialized countries – Brazil, South Africa, India and China – formed by an agreement on 28 November 2009.
The four committed to acting jointly at the Copenhagen climate summit, including a possible united walk-out if their common minimum position was not met by the developed nations.
