Weekend weather will remain cloudy, with a chance of rain on Saturday in the western and coastal areas of the UAE, according to the national weather bureau. The amount of clouds is likely to increase in coastal and western areas at times. The sea will be moderately rough with moderate winds in general, said the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS). The forecaster also indicate a slight increase in daytime temperature on Friday in inland and some other areas. Temperatures will remain 20 to 35 degrees Celsius on the coasts, 16C to 39C inland, and 15C to 26C in the mountains. A sudden dust storm yesterday surprised people in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and other cities. Strong winds kicked up dust and sand in open areas that reduced visibility less than 50 metres in Ajman. Similar conditions were reported from Abu Dhabi and then from Al Ain where visibility dipped to 100 metres. The dusty conditions, however, quickly faded away. Forecasters said the condition was caused by winds moving along with the clouds from Saudi Arabia into the UAE. A convergence point was developed over the UAE for winds coming from different directions. This convergence led the winds to kick up dust in open areas. The winds are coming from the east and western and north-western directions, said the NCMS. Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi police advise motorists to be cautious on highways and roads in open areas.
