It is more than 75 years since Chevrolet invented the SUV with its Suburban Carryall model, and all that expertise has gone into developing Trax: a modern, highly versatile yet fuel-efficient small SUV. “Trax is poised to make a big difference in practicality and character of small SUVs on sale in the UK,” said Andy Higgins, Managing Director of Chevrolet UK. “It is a car designed to meet the needs of this growing market by delivering true SUV looks, practicality, safety and space, with car-like handling and all-wheel-drive.” Measuring 4,248 mm in length, and featuring a width of 1,776 mm and a wheelbase of 2,555 mm, Chevrolet’s new small SUV sports powerful body lines that convey agility and movement. Trax has sufficient space to accommodate five persons in a comfortable high seating position. It will deliver car-like handling while also enabling off-road capability when needed. The UK engine line-up will include a 1.4L turbocharged petrol unit, a 1.6L petrol engine as well as a 1.7L turbo-diesel engine. The 1.4L turbo petrol engine is mated to an AWD system and cranks out 140 hp (103 kW), producing a maximum torque of 200 Nm. The AWD system is also available on the 1.7L diesel engine. The 1.7L diesel engine will deliver a power output of 130 hp (96 kW), a maximum torque of 300 Nm and will be offered with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. CO2 emissions for the 1.7L diesel engine are 120g/km. All powertrains with manual transmission come with Start/Stop functionality. Storage amenities in the Trax are plentiful and its boot space is a spacious 358 litres with all five seats in place. There are total of eight seating combinations available, including a 60/40 split rear seat and a front passenger seat which can be folded flat, offering additional flexibility in the segment and an impressive maximum load space of 1,370 litres. In the cabin, Trax delivers a message of clean sophistication that is complemented by useful convenience features such as a cluster combining digital readouts with analogue displays. Handy stowage for smaller items includes bins above and on both sides of the centre stack, as well as an available under pass seat tray. Further stowage can be made available under the cargo floor. In the UK Trax will be available in two trim levels: LS and LT. Each will benefit from the extremely high specification. The LS trim level features 16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, remote central locking, rear parking sensors, front fog lights and auto headlights together with Bluetooth compatibility. The LT trim level adds 18-inch alloy wheels, a rear parking camera, light-sensitive rear view mirror and leather steering wheel and gearknob, as well as the innovative Chevrolet Mylink system as standard. Chevrolet MyLink is an infotainment system that aggregates content from smartphones onto a seven-inch, high resolution, full colour touch-screen display. A dedicated navigation app which can be downloaded onto compatible smartphones will become available early next year. It will project the route from the smartphone onto the system’s touch-screen.
