If there’s one car which has taken the whole world by storm since its launch not so long ago, it is without a doubt the Range Rover Evoque. You may know that the New York International Auto Show was held earlier this week and yes, you guessed it, the Evoque picked up yet another award to put in its trophy cabinet. This time, it was the ‘World Design Car Of The Year 2012’ prize. Land Rover’s Design Director Gerry McGovern attributes much of the Evoque’s success to its “bold and dramatic design”, saying it’s a car which “resonates on an emotional level.” With its combined design flair, proportions, luxury and excellent off-road ability, the Evoque certainly has carved a new segment out for itself and laid down the gauntlet to other manufacturers. Managing Editor of Auto & Design magazine, Silvia Baruffaldi, said that “True to the concept car it derives from, it is a contemporary automotive design masterpiece. Besides not having equals in the markets, it is able to deliver the Land Rover DNA in a more compact, sporty bodystyle. A premium product without the bad habit of showing off.” The Evoque doesn’t just look stunning, it also provides class-leading on and off-road performance with superbly dynamic, agile handling , and comes with many of Range Rover’s mouth-watering latest technologies such as Terrain Response, the clever dual-view touchscreen allowing the driver to see the satnav/audio display whilst the passenger watches a DVD, the infamous surround camera system and stacks of customisation so that customers can build the exact Evoque they want. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) hold a driving day once a month where people in the industry can test their range of vehicles. Last month’s was attended by a number of motoring bloggers including the social media guy at Warrantywise, one of the UK’s leading extended used car warranty firms championed by Quentin Willson. Everyone loved the Evoque, which attracted so much attention – and it’s clear to see why! The Evoque pipped the sexy new Citroen DS5 and the acclaimed Volkswagen Up! to the post for this particular award at the New York International Auto Show 2012. But what other awards has the Evoque won? The list is too long to publish in full, but highlights include ‘2012 North American Truck of the Year’, ‘Editor’s Choice, SUV of the Year, AOL’, ‘Sunday Times Best Car of 2011, UK’, ‘Best Luxury SUV, Middle East Motor Awards’, ‘Car of the Year Design and Performance, Car China’ and nearly 100 other awards – and counting!
