First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), Honorary President of Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Federation (BMMAF) and Head of the High Organising Committee of 2017 Brave International Combat Week and the 4th edition of the World Mixed Martial Arts Championship Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa described the media as a partner in highlighting the international event which is hosted by Bahrain for the first time in Asia and the Middle East.
He was speaking as he received at his Majlis at Al-Wadi Palace today Chief Executive of the National Communication Centre (NCC) Dr. Mohammed Ali Bahzad, Editor-in-Chief of Al Bilad newspaper and President of Bahrain Journalists Association (BJA) Mones Al Mardi, Editor-in-Chief of Al-Ayam newspaper Isa Al Shaiji, Editor-in-Chief of Alwatan newspaper Yusef Al Binkhalil, Responsible Editor of Daily Tribune Mahmood Al Mahmood, Editor-in-Chief of Gulf Daily News George Williams, BJA Sport Media Committee Head Mohammed Ismail, Head of Bahrain Sport Channel at the Information Ministry Meriam Bukamal and Mohammed Al-Matouk from Akhbar Al Khaleej newspaper.
The meeting was held in the presence of Youth and Sport Affairs Minister and member of the championship High Organising Committee Hesham bin Mohammed Al Jowder and Information Affairs Minister Ali bin Mohammed Al Romaihi.
Shaikh Khalid underlined the key role that will be played by the media in projecting Bahrain as a major host of continental and international sporting functions and boosting its global reputation in the sport field. He pointed out the recent development of the Mixed Martial Arts (MAA) sport throughout the world, adding that this sport has contributed enormously to consolidating Bahrain’s standing on the world map thanks to the achievements brought about in a record time. This, he noted, has earned Bahrain the confidence of the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) to hold the world amateur championship for the first time outside Las Vegas, the USA.
Shaikh Khalid praised Bahrain’s distinction in this sport thanks to the directives and support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the follow-up of Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, SCYS Chairman and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa. He reviewed with the Information Minister and the audience 2017 Brave International Combat Week programme which will be hosted by Bahrain from November 12 to 19. He stressed that the championship is a new challenge for Bahraini competencies to show their capabilities in ensuring an outstanding organisation of the event which will bring together a record number of 50 countries from around the world. He thanked the mass media for their unflinching cooperation in serving Bahrain, wishing all success in covering the international event.
The Information Minister voiced Bahrain’s pride in hosting 2017 Brave International Combat Week and the World Amateur MMA Championship which is organised by Bahrain for the first time at the level of the Asian Continent after winning the confidence of IMMAF. He commended the support of the leadership and the distinguished efforts of Shaikh Khalid which have promoted the MMA sport at the regional and continental level. He said Bahrain has been able to bring about many achievements in various championships, pointing out that all mass media will be a partner in projecting and ensuring success of the event.
