Algiers - APS
National news agency APS and its Mauritanian counterpart AMI signed Sunday in Algiers an agreement for the development of cooperation in all relevant fields.
The agreement was signed by the general managers of APS, Abdelhamid Kacha, and AMI's, Yerba Ould Sghair, at the APS headquarters.
The deal provides for "updating and extending the existing agreement between the two institutions considering the technical and technological developments worldwide," Sghair told APS at the end of the signing ceremony.
The general manager of AMI said that APS was a "pioneer, developed" agency, adding that his agency may "profit" of its experience.
Concerning the prospects of Maghreb cooperation (among news agencies), Sghair said AMI "is ready to cooperate with "all Maghreb agencies despite some obstacles, which will be overcome through the willingness of those institutions to develop cooperation among them."
AMI "is a public agency," he underlined, adding that "it addresses the news with professionalism."
"It is illogical and unacceptable to take a news item about Algeria, for example, from the French or the German news agency."
Sghair has visited different services of APS, where he received details about the work of the agency and the steps it has gone through since its creation in 1961.
