Only two months on the job and already Today show executive Jamie Horowitz has gotten the boot from NBC News.
NBC News President Deborah Turness announced the termination Monday.
"He's a talented producer and executive, but, together, he and I have come to the conclusion that this is not the right fit," she said.
Horowitz declined to comment on the situation, but one person familiar with the situation told CNN he was blindsided by the dismissal.
NBC hired Horowitz away from Disney's ESPN four months ago and two months ago he officially took the reins as general manager of the morning show, which has been second in ratings behind ABC's Good Morning America for two years.
Horowitz's last day with the network was Monday. Turness said she would take over general manager duties until a replacement is hired.
