Twitter Inc. announced Thursday that it has shut another 235,000 accounts for posting violent threats or promoting terrorist acts.

The social media platform's latest move brought the total number of suspended terrorism-related Twitter accounts to 360,000 since last year, according to a company statement.

Twitter said that its daily suspensions of those accounts have increased over 80 percent since 2015, with spikes right after terrorist attacks.

The company relies mostly on users's reports to identify terrorism-related accounts, and it has expanded the size of staff to ensure a 7/24 review of reports, it said.

"We will continue to invest in both technology and other resources in the future and you can expect us to update our progress regularly," said Twitter.

The company has expanded partnerships with international counter-extremism organizations to "empower credible non-governmental voices against violent extremism," the statement said.

Twitter also pledged to work with law enforcement authorities which need assistance with investigations over terrorist acts, adding that it reports on related government requests twice a year.
