Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) organized 16 workshops to introduce the Abu Dhabi Environment, Health and Safety Management System (AD EHSMS), approved by Abu Dhabi Center for Environment, Health and Safety (AD EHS Center), to public and private schools in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. \"The workshops aimed to get schools familiar with AD EHSMS requirements and processes designed in accordance with the highest international standards,\" said Eng. Khaled Al Ansari, ADEC\'s School Services Division Manager. \"ADEC is keen to provide students as well as school community, to include teaching and administrative staff, with a safe learning environment in line with the Abu Dhabi Environment, Health and Safety Policy launched in 2006 by HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Chairman of ADEC, developing EHS systems in all facilities and sectors across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi,\" he added. \"In 2007, the Higher Committee for Development and Implementation of EHSMS was formed. AD EHS Center appointed ADEC as the first regulatory authority for the implementation of EHSMS requirements in Abu Dhabi education sector in December 2011,\" he pointed out. The first step taken by ADEC in this regard was to register all schools operating in the emirate by completing the registration form developed by AD EHS Center. 171 public and private schools across the emirate registered in the system in the first phase. All the remaining schools will be covered in the second phase to be implemented by the second quarter of 2013. ADEC Environment, Health and Safety Section arranged for 309 public and private schools to take part in the training activities and workshops in preparation for the implementation of the EHSMS system. 591 principals and vice principals received training and copies of EHSMS related documents were distributed to participants.
