The General Organization for Social Insurance yesterday rejected an appeal by owners of private schools to review the minimum salary of SR 5,000 to be given to Saudi teachers. Sulaiman Al-Homaid, vice president of GOSI, said private schools have to pay a minimum salary of SR 5,000 in addition to SR 600 travel allowance to Saudi teachers as per a royal decree issued on the subject. “GOSI’s board of directors, chaired by Labor Minister Adel Fakeih rejected the request by school owners to register their Saudi teachers at the organization for a salary of less than SR 5,000,” Al-Homaid said. He said the organization would not accept a salary of less than SR 5,000 to register Saudi teachers with its system. He warned against attempts by some school owners to circumvent the decision, saying it is a violation of the law and the violators would be punished. “Schools that fail to comply will be deprived from the GOSI certifications and other government services,” he said.
